Biotech Laboratory

In India, Biotechnology has made significant strides in the past three decades with spectacular developments in plant molecular biology and genetic engineering. Due to scarce natural resources, global trade restrictions, and inherent plant biological genetic limitations can be overcome through the plant biotechnology.
Bahuvida Limited, a leading biotechnology company with a decade of expertise in tissue culture plants propagation is developing hybrid horticulture and forestry plants in Hyderabad. Since inception, our startup laboratory setup has become a benchmark for agricultural innovations. As part of our mission, we are in the process of expanding the lab facility as a state-of-the-art plant biotechnology laboratory to experiment at least 25+ varieties at a time; this will function as a central hub for research, propagation, and commercial-scale production of elite saplings with the capacity of 1 million plants annually to empower sustainable agricultural practices in India.
The biotechnology laboratory serves as the R&D backbone of Bahuvida’s diversified Agribusiness operations, focusing on the propagation and development of saplings for:
• Macadamia: Australia-originated, high-yielding grafted varieties adapted for Indian agro-climatic zones; For the first time in the world, Bahuvida Limited’s biotech lab is one who is developing hybrid / tissue-culture Macadamia saplings;
• Cactus (for Bioleather): Special cultivars of Opuntia Ficus-Indica, suitable for bioleather processing;
• Avocado: Hass and Fuerte varieties; propagated using rootstock-scion grafting and hybrid tissue variety for subtropical cultivation;
• Date Palm: Tissue-cultured varieties such as Barhi, Medjool, and Khalas for arid and semi-arid farming;
• Almond, Brazil Nut, Hazelnut, Walnut: Cold-climate nut crops trialed through controlled-environment systems for niche Indian zones, developing hybrid tissue varieties;
• Cotton & Tobacco: High-resistance biotech strains for commercial agronomy and hybrid seed development;
• Coffee & Tea: Propagation of Arabica and Assamica variants tailored to specific elevation and rainfall conditions through hybrid tissue-culture technology;
• Teak & Agarwood: Forestry species grown using micro-propagation and somatic embryogenesis for uniform growth and aroma yield;
Bahuvida Limited’s biotechnology lab facility is equipped with globally benchmarked systems for plant propagation. In our new facility, we are developing a controlled tissue culture lab that includes modular clean rooms (Class-1000 to Class-10000) for in vitro plant multiplication. Laminar air flow cabinets, autoclaves, pH meters, culture chambers (23–25°C, 60% RH), and LED-lit growth racks. It has also equipped with mother plant blocks & grafting zones including certified mother plants for Macadamia and other species housed under insect-proof net houses. We are facilitating the lab with dedicated zones for epicotyl and wedge grafting using proven Australian and Israeli protocols. It has hardening and acclimatization units like polyhouse and shade net structures with misting, fogging, and root zone temperature controls.
We collaborated with the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) for germplasm evaluation and licensed under Seed Act (1966) and Nursery Registration Act, with regular audits from the Horticulture Department of Telangana. In our research and farmer services we stringently follow ICAR and NHB (National Horticulture Board) propagation protocols. Our lab facility is going to offer custom propagation services for private sector clients under NDA-based arrangements.
Bahuvida Limited’s biotechnology lab is not only supporting its flagship business Macadamia and Bioleather but also laying the groundwork for India to become self-reliant in high-value horticulture and agroforestry crops. This lab is the cornerstone of Bahuvida’s integrated approach - from seedling to harvest to global markets.
