As part of its pioneering initiatives in Indian agriculture, Bahuvida Limited has established a state-of-the-art Plant Quarantine Facility in Hyderabad, approved and operated in accordance with the guidelines of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage (DPPQS), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, and international phytosanitary standards. This facility plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and compliant introduction of high-value plant materials, especially Macadamia and Bioleather, into Indian soil.
Purpose & Role of the Facility:
The core function of Bahuvida Limited’s Plant Quarantine Facility is to:
• Safely import, isolate, and monitor exotic plant species;
• Detect and prevent the entry of harmful pests, diseases, and invasive species;
• Facilitate third-party imports under contractual arrangements for clients who do not possess their own quarantine facilities;
This makes Bahuvida Limited the first private player in India to offer third-party quarantine services for the high-value crops, positioning it as a national gateway for Agribusiness innovation.
Imported Plant Varieties Handled:
Bahuvida Limited is currently focused on:
• Macadamia (both Integrifolia & Tetraphylla) sourced from Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Malawi and Hawaii;
• Grafted Macadamia seedlings and tissue-culture saplings of commercial cultivars like Beaumont-695, and 849;
• Cactus based Bioleather plants sourced from Mexico;
• Other high-value exotic plant species under R&D consideration: Blueberry, Blackberry, Avocado etc (in limited trials);
These are imported under valid Import Permits (IP) from the Plant Quarantine Organization of India (PQOI) and subject to mandatory Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) conditions which will obviously be our Quarantine Facility.
Our facility is spread over 2 Acres of climate-controlled greenhouse space where segregated compartments for different consignments and species. It is fully equipped with double-door entry, UV air filtration, anti-insect netting, and positive-pressure ventilation to minimize cross-contamination. The facility has the temperature and humidity control systems (22 to 28°C, 70% RH) and Pest surveillance equipment (sticky traps, pheromone lures). For on-site diagnostics, it has ELISA kits, microscope lab, soil and tissue testing kits, waste management system with sterilization and composting units etc.
We have experienced plant pathologists, entomologists, agronomists, technical support team who trained in international quarantine protocols. At Bahuvida Limited, we hold valid Import Permit (IP) from PQOI for Macadamia and Bioleather crops. We certified as a PEQ Facility under the Indian Plant Quarantine Order, 2003 and periodic audits and compliance reviews will be conducted by the Regional PQ Officer, Hyderabad. We maintain documented SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and inspection logs at every stage of the day-to-day operations.

Plant Quarantine Practices Followed:
Bahuvida Limited follows a meticulous step-wise process:
1. Pre-Import Compliance: Request for IP, CITES clearance (if needed), and phytosanitary certification from the exporting country;
2. Import & Receipt: Entry through designated points (Hyderabad Airport PQ Station or any other Seaport/Airport in India). Visual inspection and temporary isolation;
3. Quarantine Monitoring (45 to 90 days): Daily surveillance for symptoms, pests, or fungal infections. Weekly tissue sampling and microscopic screening. Quarantine logs maintained for each batch;
4. Treatment & Remediation: If infections are detected, plants undergo fungicide/insecticide treatment or are destroyed under PQ officer supervision;
5. Release Certification: Upon clearance, a Quarantine Release Certificate (QRC) is issued, allowing transplantation into farms or nurseries;
